Taylor Swift: It’s normal to make mistakes

There’s no shame in making mistakes.

That was the message Taylor Swift wanted to impart to her legions of fans, as she accepted the first-ever Icon prize at the recent Teen Choice Awards (TCA).

“Sometimes, you think if you try hard enough to make every decision perfectly, you think you can possibly ace life and never make mistakes. But it’s normal to make mistakes,” the pop star said, as she held onto TCA’s signature surfboard trophy on which images of three cats were printed.

The 29-year-old singer-songwriter pointed out to the young audience that no one goes through life “unscathed.”

“If you’re out there and you’re being hard on yourself for something that’s happened, or messing up or feeling embarrassed, it’s normal. That’s what’s going to happen to you in life,” she said. “We’re all going to have a few scratches on us.”

And as a treat to her “most amazing and generous” supporters, Taylor also announced that she will soon release another single from her upcoming album, “Lover.”

“You make me so, so happy. You make me laugh every day. I love meeting you. Thank you for giving me the life I have,” Taylor said. “I love you more than words can say!” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
