MANILA, Philippines — The Miss Universe Organization should not only spread positivity, but also block people sending hate comments in its page, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said Thursday.

Miss Universe reposted via its official Instagram account Wurtzbach’s Twitter post which read: “To anyone who’s going through something, kapit lang. We’re here for you!”

While she recognized the organization’s effort to share updates about Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Wurtzbach said it should also take time to block hate comments in its page.

“Hi! Aside from posting pictures, positive messages, updates about Cat, why not take time to scroll thru the comments also and block the ones that are spreading hate on this page,” Wurtzbach commented.

Wurtzbach pointed out how the Miss Universe’s account has been “toxic” because of hate comments when it should reflect its own purpose which is to “uplift, empower and inspire.”

“Miss universe celebrates unity in diversity. Miss universe uplifts, empowers, inspires. I think the ig [Instagram] account (and comments that everyone can see) should reflect that also,” the beauty queen said.

“Not sure if they’re aware but its become quite t o x i c here already. That’s not what MU is about. No more bullying and spreading hate on this page please,” she added.

Wurtzbach made the call after Gray was described as “fat” by Thai beauty queen Coco Arayha Suparurk in an Instagram post.

Gray has yet to directly address the issue, but spoke up against any form of bullying and bashing either online or offline after Suparurk’s post went viral.

“It is never, ever okay to put someone down for the sake of ‘expressing your opinion.’ With words come power and we should be using those words to build someone up and not pull them down,” Gray previously said in a Twitter post.

“Obviously I stand firmly against any form of bullying and bashing – online and off,” she added. /jpv
