Zephanie Dimaranan wins ‘Idol Philippines’

MANILA, Philippines — Teen singer Zephanie Dimaranan was hailed as the winner of ABS-CBN singing reality competition “Idol Philippines” on Sunday night.

Garnering the highest combined score of 100 percent, Dimaranan beat fellow finalists Lucas Garcia and Lance Busa.

Dimaranan was known all throughout her stint as the person who never gave up despite her previous losses in other television singing competitions such as “The Voice Kids” and “Tawag ng Tanghalan”.

During the show’s grand finals, Dimaranan performed “Maghintay Ka Lamang” in the first round where the finalists were asked to perform a song that sums up their journey.

Dimaranan then continued to impress the crowd in the second round when she performed an original song “Pangarap Kong Pangarap Mo” composed by Jonathan Manalo.

Dimaranan, who hailed from Biñan town in Laguna, started her Idol journey with Sarah Geronimo’s rendition of the song Forever’s Not Enough.

Hitting the high notes of the song, Dimaranan impressed the judges who noted her “down to Earth” nature and her potential with her “crystal clear” voice earning her all the judges’ approval.

Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, Moira dela Torre and James Reid served as the judges of Idol Philippines. Host Billy Crawford announced before the show’s conclusion that the hit reality competition would be coming back for another season.
