MANILA, Philippines — Grab Philippines has earned rebuke for a meme it posted on its social media account that showed photos of actresses linked to actor Gerald Anderson.
This meme came after a picture of Anderson and Julia Barretto surfaced on social media, and stirred rumors that the two are an item. Anderson, however, is said to be the boyfriend of Bea Alonzo.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Grab Philippines came up with a meme bearing the images of Barretto, Alonzo, Maja Salvador, Pia Wurtzbach, Kim Chui, and Sarah Geronimo and captioned it: “Walang kailangang maiwan. Walang kailangang masaktan. Sa GrabCar 6-seater, pwedeng magsabay-sabay.”
But fans of the actresses and netizens did not find it funny. They aired their displeasure over the meme that clearly attempted to promote one of Grab’s services and considered it to be offensive to women.
Later, the transport network vehicle service firm apologized.
In a short photo statement, Grab Philippines said they did not intend to disrespect women and relationships.
“We apologize for running the light! We were in no way encouraging nor condoning disrespect for women and disrespect within relationships,” it said.
“We admire the love and loyalty that fans have for all these wonderful women. Thank you for reminding us what not to be!” it added. Faye Orellana, INQUIRER.net
