Yeng Constantino apologizes to Siargao doctor, takes down vlog

MANILA, Philippines – Singer Yeng Constantino has apologized to a doctor she named on a video blog about her and her husband Yan Asuncion’s “traumatic” experience in a Siargao hospital.

“I would like to apologize to Dr. Esterlina Tan and the other medical staff for the hurt that my post and vlog has caused them,” Constantino wrote Monday night in a Facebook post.

The singer explained her posts were brought about by her “high emotions” because of her husband whose life was in danger.

“Regarding the Siargao incident, yung mga recent posts ko was brought about by my high emotions dahil sa nangyari sa aking asawa whose life at that time I thought was in grave danger. Pagkatapos kong kausapin ang mga taong malapit sa akin I realized I should have been more responsible in my posts,” she said.

Admitting it was unfair to call the doctor out, Constantino said she has taken down her posts and the video blog regarding the incident.

“Whatever concerns I had should have been coursed through the proper forum. It was unfair to call her out on social media and I’m taking down the posts and the vlog immediately,” Constantino said.

“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt I caused her at sa lahat ng mga medical professionals who were affected by my posts. There is no excuse. I will do my best to be more responsible next time,” she added.

Constantino was subjected to criticism for “doctor-shaming” after she exposed the identity of the doctor who attended to their case and called her out for “lack of concern.”

Several netizens, however, pointed out that Constantino might have mistaken the doctor’s calmness as lack of urgency and stressed that the lack of equipment and staff are the problem.  /gsg
