Fellow beauty queens have expressed support for Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray after a Thai beauty queen’s body-shaming comment.

Coco Arayha Suparurk, who was crowned Miss Grand International Thailand on July 13, has gained flak after she shared a post on her Instagram Stories last week that compared Gray with Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa from Paraguay. The word “fit” was placed under Sosa’s picture, while “fat” was beneath Gray’s. Despite the backlash online, Suparurk has yet to apologize for the post.

Beauty queens have rallied around Gray since the comment was made. Among them are Miss Universe Canada 2016 Siera Bearchell and Miss Grand International Philippines 2019 Samantha Lo, who have shared their pieces about the issue online.

Bearchell herself has been a victim of body-shaming during the Miss Universe competition. She stood up for Gray through a vlog in 2018 when a swimsuit picture of her shared on Vogue Thailand’s Instagram page drew comments such as “chubby” and “plump.”

In another vlog on July 10, Bearchell said, “If there are young women or just women in general who see these pictures of her (Catriona) and then they see that people are calling her fat, I cannot help but question and I know that some of these people question themselves.”

“What would a young woman who may be struggling with her body image think if she saw a picture of Catriona and she saw that people are calling her fat?”

Meanwhile, Lo had a candid response to Suparurk. On Tuesday, she was asked on Instagram Stories about her thoughts on “what Miss Grand Thailand said about Miss Universe.”

“She’s not invited to pizza night with Cat and I (sic),” replied Lo along with images of a pizza slice and two soda bottles.
