Let the real singers do the singing, please

CHARICE. Edgy new look.

PATRICIA Albano, student: “Charice’s edgy new look has drawn a lot of flak. As she explained in interviews, however, even if she changed her looks, her attitude will stay the same. So, there. Let’s give Charice a break!”

Other notes:

Sarah Sioson, retired teacher: “There seems to be a revival of the Nora Aunor–Vilma Santos rivalry with the announcement that they’ll topbill different film projects this year: Nora wlll be working with Brillante Mendoza, while Vilma is shooting a horror movie with Chito Roño. Young moviegoers need to ‘experience’ their exceptional gifts as actresses!

“It’s still my fondest wish to see them together in a film. This may seem like a far-fetched idea, but with a good script and a no-nonsense director, I’m sure they will oblige.”

Upcoming projects

Marichu Catalan, televiewer: “I hope GMA 7 and ABS-CBN will stop their non-singing contract stars from ‘singing’ in their Sunday noontime musical-variety programs. They’re featured regularly in song numbers to promote their upcoming projects. Lip-synch na nga lang, nagkakamali pa. Pagsalitain na lang sila, please! I’m sure even their followers will appreciate it.”

Liza Valbuena, businesswoman: “It’s interesting to note the SRO crowds at the live concerts of self-confessed non-singer, Anne Curtis, and comedians, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, compared to the so-so reception for the concert of the more seasoned musical tandem of Sharon Cuneta and Martin Nievera.

“This seems to indicate that concertgoers these days prefer novelty over musicality—which is a pity, because Sharon and Martin worked hard to come up with what they dubbed as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ show.”
