Prayer of devotion and gratitude

GREAT sages offer wonderful prayers to the Supreme Being, as this prayer from the Vedic literature illustrates:

“Let me offer my respectful obeisance to the Supreme Person, the controller of my senses and the origin of everything. He supplies us with all the necessities of life. He is the cause of everyone’s physical and mental prowess. He knows no fear and provides shelter for those who need protection.

Position

“My Lord, you are the only husband, and no one else can claim this position. Therefore, people accept You as their only master—and they believe that no one else is better as their protector.

“You also fulfil the desires of a woman who worships Your lotus feet in pure love. Sometimes, however, even after fulfilling her desire, she still ends up discontented and brokenhearted. Therefore, people shouldn’t worship You for material benefits. I offer You my respectful obeisance.”
