Actor wants wife to ‘lead him not into temptation’

12:15 AM June 22, 2019

On our “Guess List” this week: Upon the request of Dashing Actor (DA), his wife accompanies him to all show biz events and shootings to help him avoid temptation. But wifey’s presence doesn’t stop women from flirting with DA.

When they get home and she starts sorting the laundry, she finds a lot of calling cards from women who randomly slip them in DA’s pocket. Call them, maybe?

Different priorities

One of the reasons why a show biz couple broke up is their difference in priorities. The guy is ready to tie the knot, but the girl isn’t. Not all girlfriends turn out to be wife material, àpres tout.

Noel ‘Raks’ in his return to theater

My good friend, Noel Cabangon, has such a soothing voice. He’s like the human form of a menthol candy. I often tease the OPM stalwart that it seems like he swallowed a mini electric fan, that’s why his voice sounds so cool.

Unlike some singers who sound good only on vinyl or Spotify, Noel sounds great even when he’s singing live. No wonder Unilab tapped Noel as one of the resource persons for Sorexidine, an effective gargle solution for sore throat. The brand is supporting the singer’s return to theater via the hit musical, “Rak of Aegis,” whose seventh season runs from July 5 to Sept. 29 at Peta Theater.

Noel will keep singing his heart out and take the audience where good vibes reside.

Here’s my chat with Noel:

What excites you and makes you nervous about your stint in “Rak?” I haven’t done a play in 11 years. My last one was in Germany, Peta’s presentation to an international community theater festival. That’s why I am a bit nervous. I need more time to prepare. I’m excited because doing a play is a unique experience. The process is complete. And you’re doing it live. That means you can either be at your worst or best performance.

In what ways can you relate to your character, Kiel?

I am also a father who is concerned about my family and community. I have my share of struggles, too. I know what community life is. I spent my high school and early college life in Kamuning. And I have a son who, in his heart, also wants to be a full-time musician.

Why do you think “Rak” is such a hit? It has the complete ingredients for a successful musical. The songs are not used as a background, but as an integral component of how the story is told. The arrangements of the songs are brilliant. The production design is unique, with a “banca” and flood effects. It has social relevance. The seasoned actors give the audience a total theater experience.

What’s your fave scene, song and line from “Rak?” The conflict whether to push through with the concert or not. And the very reason why they were doing the concert was pumped out already. The community was divided, but it was eventually resolved. I like Kiel’s line to Mary Jane:“Kung talagang naniniwala ka sa galing ng tao, hindi mo kailangan ang gimik na ito. Marami pang ibang paraan.” My favorite song: “Basang-basa sa Ulan.”

How do you handle midlife crisis? I’m not aware if I’ve ever been through that (laughs). Having regular singing gigs keeps my mind off that so-called crisis. There was a time I wanted to enroll in a culinary school. Instead, I took voice lessons (classical) at UP. Golf helps, too.

If you would write a song about men with mistresses, what would the title be? “Sumakabilang Bahay”
