Vice President Robredo mourns passing of fellow Bicolano, Eddie Garcia

Acclaimed actor and director Eddie Garcia died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Makati Medical Center after suffering from neck fracture, which he got from an accident while filming for an upcoming TV series in Tondo, Manila last June 8.

MANILA, Philippines — Tributes and messages of consolation continue to flow for celebrated film actor and director Eddie Garcia.

Vice President Leni Robredo conveyed her grief on the passing of her fellow Bicolano, whom she described as “pillar” of Philippine movie and television industry.

Garcia died late Thursday afternoon at the Makati Medical Center after suffering from neck fracture, which he got from an accident while filming for an upcoming TV series in Tondo, Manila last June 8. He consequently fell into coma.

“Lubos akong nakikiramay sa pamilya at mahal sa buhay ng isang kapwa taga-Bicol, si Manoy Eddie Garcia, isa sa ating haligi ng industriya ng telebisyon at pelikula,” Robredo wrote.

“Hindi matatawaran ang kaniyang ambag sa sining, na nag-iwan ng marka ng kahusayan na walang kinikilalang panahon,” she added.

A Makati Medical Center medical bulletin confirmed Garcia’s death at 4:55 p.m. June 20.
