Gawad’s best for fifth year

I am speechless with gratitude to the esteemed group of academicians who comprise Gawad Tanglaw for naming me the best entertainment columnist for the fifth straight year.
The awarding will be tomorrow (Thursday) at the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in Las Piñas.
Gawad Tanglaw’s vote of confidence and the unwavering support of my readers through every controversy along the way make it all worthwhile. They help me maintain my sense of equilibrium in the dizzying circus of show biz!
I have often been asked about the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I have only my late great mom, Inday Badiday, to thank for paving the way. The incredible legacy she left behind is something I will always strive to live up to.
As a true child of show biz, here are some reminders that I have taken to heart:
Sometimes the one who talks more means it less.
You should have an inner filter system to ward off all the bad vibes, or else the system will eat you alive.
Even when you are considered public property, it is best to retain some mystery.
Some stars tend to believe their own hype. If you are in the biz just for the money, you will feel worthless deep down inside. Knowing that your time is well-spent doing what you love to do is far better than just being well-paid.
You meet the whole spectrum of “characters” in this business. It is up to you whether you let them transform you, or whether you transform them.
You cannot change people. You can only unmask them.
Fame can sometimes be overrated. You must have friends outside of the business to help you keep your sanity intact.
Show biz is just a job. But some people breathe and live show biz. It is best not to let this circus define you.
Not all celebs say what they mean nor mean what they say. You have to scratch at the surface to reach the core.
Show biz can be cruel. But don’t let it get to you and turn you into a bitch.
Plastic people give show biz a bad name. But they thrive in the industry with all their schemes. Learn to live with them and think of it as one big Tupperware party.
Intrigues come with the territory. Grin and bear it.
Celebs are like ordinary people. They just happen to have a high-profile job. It’s normal to get star-struck. But try to get toknow the person and not just the personality.

ABS-CBN finds meaning in producing shows that inspire Filipinos, affirm their self-worth and recognize their strengths. This was the key message of ABS-CBN chair and CEO Gabby Lopez III at this year’s Pinoy Media Congress (PMC), which the Kapamilya network hosted for about 1,000 mass communication and journalism students from all over the country.
“The fulfillment that you experience by doing something that has a positive impact on the lives of people is a more lasting reward than the glamour and the pay,” Lopez said.
Other ABS-CBN leaders shared their media expertise at the forum as well. The PMC delegates were given surprise treats by Angeline Quinto, PBB ex-housemates, and Jericho Rosales, who graced the closing rites of the event.
The PMC has won awards of excellence from the Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines in 2007, and the Anvil Awards given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines in 2008. Kudos Team DOS!
