MANILA, Philippines–More than the truth that there is only one superstar in the history of the 100 years of Philippine Cinema, Nora Aunor is an icon.

On the 2nd Subic Bay International Film Festival, Aunor will receive the Philippine Cinema Icon Award.

Festival Directors Vic V. Vizcocho Jr. and Arlyn Dela Cruz-Bernal are in concord in the decision to give this award solely to Nora Aunor stressing that her contribution to cinema, not just in the Philippines but in Asia, is beyond comparison.

“Cliche as it may sound, Nora Aunor is Nora Aunor, meaning there is no one who can equal her achievements as an artist,” Dela Cruz-Bernal said.

On his part Vizcocho said: “Nora Aunor’s entry in the film industry is legendary.

She changed the status quo and became the status quo, the new definition of a true idol in her era.”

SBIFF is also honoring multi-awarded cinematographer Romy Vitug with the Phillippine Cinema’s 100 Legendary Award.

Last year, SBIFF also awarded Eddie Garcia and Elwood Perez on their contribution to the growth of Philippine Cinema.

This year’s 2nd SBIFF is slated on June 21-23, 2019 at the Harbor Point Ayala Mall in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
