Patty Betita gets flak for comparing Daniel Padilla with James Reid

MANILA, Philippines — Former beauty queen Patty Betita reaped the ire of some netizens after saying Daniel Padilla is “nicer,” “more accommodating” than James Reid.

Betita posted a photo with Padilla after the coronation night of Binibining Pilipinas 2019 via an Instagram story.

She wrote as caption: “Btw…Daniel Padilla is much nicer and accommodating than James Reid. #fortherecord.”

Netizens could not help but react to the post with one saying Betita could have praised Padilla without “badmouthing” Reid.

“Gusto ko tlaga i post to. Pwede nman purihin si DJ, w/out badmouthing James di ba. Pero kinompare mo pa silang dalawa @pattybetita what is your purpose, para mapansin?” the netizen wrote in a tweet.

Another netizen pointed out that Reid was there as a judge of the pageant and not for a meet and greet.

“For the record, James went there to do his job. To judge the beauty contestants, not for a photo op.  It’s not a Meet-and-Greet session or to promote something he endorses,” the netizen said.

“Cut James (and any celebrity) some slack. They don’t always have to heed to people’s wishes,” the netizen added.

Another netizen lamented: “James is a good man. One failed photo op cannot change that. Shame on you @pattybetita for giving a chance for others to bash James.”

Meanwhile, Betita took to Twitter Monday to apologize to fans for hurting their feelings.

“I didn’t realize the gravity of what I thought was just my opinion .. obviously made so many #Jadine fans seething with anger attacking me,” Betita said.

“Ok, I sincerely apologize if I hurt your feelings. I judged an innocent guy and made a careless comment,” she added.

Betita also thanked those who sent her personal messages, encouraging her to come out on Twitter and apologize.

“Respect begets respect. Thank you to the others who personally messaged me and encouraged me to just come out on Twitter where I guess the #fortherecord was created alluding to me and humbly apologize,” she said.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
