MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN has teamed up with theater company Atlantis Theatrical/Ten Bridges Media Corp. to co-produce the award-winning Broadway shows “Sweeney Todd” and “Beautiful.”
“It is another step forward in creating new possibilities for local theatre, which has grown tremendously over the past few years, with its abundance of talent and opportunities locally,” ABS-CBN’s head of integrated events Bobby Barreiro said in a statement Monday.
Tony award-winning Broadway musical “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” starring Kayla Rivera will open on Friday, June 14, at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City.
It tells the story of Carole King’s journey from teenage songwriter to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” features classics like “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “So Far Away,” “Take Good Care of My Baby,” among others.
Another upcoming musical is “Sweeney Todd” starring Tony award-winning actress Lea Salonga and rock icon Jett Pangan.
It follows the story of a barber who seeks revenge on the corrupt judge who destroyed his life and family.
Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s “Sweeney Todd” will open this October at The Theatre in Solaire.
ABS-CBN and Atlantis Theatrical’s partnership kicked off in March with “Angels In America: Millennium Approaches” starring Art Acuña, Pinky Amador, Angeli Bayani, Topper Fabregas, Cherie Gil, Nelsito Gomez, Andoy Ranay, and Markki Stroem.
ABS-CBN said the partnership comes in celebration of its 65th year and Atlantis Theatrical’s 20th anniversary. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
