Marriage not actor’s top priority
John Lloyd Cruz admits he’s not ready to settle down with Shaina Magdayao, his girlfriend of three years.
“We don’t even talk about tying the knot. We feel we still have a lot to achieve, individually. We’d like to maximize our potentials as actors,” the 28-year-old John Lloyd said during a media gathering marking his sixth year as Biogesic’s celebrity endorser.
He and Shaina had a very public breakup in October 2010. Last month, he announced that they had reconciled. “We’re trying to keep it private, but yes, we’re better than ever,” he said in a previous interview.
In this chat with Inquirer Entertainment, John Lloyd said Shaina was at home nursing an injured ankle, from a production number on “ASAP.”
When she’s better, he said, he’d take her to watch “Unofficially Yours,” his latest movie with Angel Locsin.
This year, John Lloyd will shoot his third film with Sarah Geronimo, and another TV series with Bea Alonzo.
What convinced you to go sexy in “Unofficially Yours”?
This is a serious subject. Casual sex is frowned upon in this country. As an actor, I’m willing to do whatever the script requires, but within boundaries.
How far would you go?
Boundaries are based on the material. I’m willing to expose some butt if necessary. You don’t want to do something just for the sake of doing it. You should do it for the right reasons. Of course, it would be so much easier to go all-out if I’m working with a director that I trust completely. I’ve known Direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina) for the longest time.
Who’s your peg in playing Macky?
I didn’t have any. In the beginning, I had a hard time understanding Macky. This was because he was also trying to find himself. Even Direk Cathy didn’t know what to make of him. Gradually, he blossomed.
Angel has said you’re at your sexiest in this movie.
The intention wasn’t for people to see how sexy I am. The bed scenes Angel and I did were necessary, to show what happens to two people who are extremely attracted to each other.
