Celebs react to Constance Wu’s ‘disgust’ at sitcom renewal

Constance Wu had to explain her social media posts that implied her unhappiness with the renewal of her hit sitcom, “Fresh Off the Boat.”

The “Crazy Rich Asians” actress—who commented “Dislike” to an announcement of a sixth season on Instagram, and tweeted, “So upset right now that I’m literally crying, ugh. F**k”—posted a lengthy statement about her odd reaction.

“I love [‘Fresh Off the Boat’]. I was temporarily upset yesterday, not because I hate the show, but because its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about,” Wu said. “But my words and ill-timing were insensitive to those who are struggling, especially [since] I used to be in that struggle, too. I do regret that. It wasn’t nice, and I’m sorry for that,” wrote the 37-year-old actress, who plays a strict and stingy Taiwanese mom in the series.

But Wu’s posts elicited different reactions from celebrities.

Matt Shively, who starred in the canceled gay-themed sitcom “The Real O’Neals,” tweeted about the situation without naming Wu: “Can you imagine making [$100,000+] a week for 22 weeks to be the star of a show, and then throwing a tantrum over its renewal? I’d gladly take your place for a fraction of that. It actually makes me sick. So gross.”

Shively added, “All of us unemployed struggling actors would greatly appreciate your silence.”

But others made fun of Wu’s posts. Seth MacFarlane, actor and “Family Guy” creator, said of his sci-fi show “The Orville’s” recent renewal, “Oh f**king g*dd*mn hell f**k f**k d**k sh*t!”

“iZombie” actor Rahul Kohli, meanwhile, jokingly tweeted, “F**king hell,” and posted a link to old news of his show’s renewal. —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
