Kris Aquino sought to support Sharon Cuneta’s movie “Kuwaresma” with her son Bimby, who unfortunately is just a year shy of making it into the movie’s R-13 rating.

She recounted on Instagram on Friday, May 17, that she and her son, along with a few staff members and no bodyguards, headed to Trinoma in Quezon City to catch the film’s 7:55 p.m. screening.
The Queen of All Media said it was suggested that Bimby could pass off as a teenager given his height—at only 12, he already surpasses his mom’s 5’3” stature.
However, almost 30 minutes into the movie, their attention was called.
“Well, we were caught and in fairness to the @iloveayalamallscinemas (Ayala Malls) staff they were even apologetic that unfortunately we’re ‘famous’ and a lot of people know Bimb is only 12 and they didn’t want to get in trouble with the MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board),” she said.
“No excuses, mali kami for trying na ipuslit si Bimb (We were wrong for trying to smuggle him in),” she said.
“But the reality is in a few months time he’ll be able to watch ‘Kuwaresma’ through Video on Demand. Excited lang kami to support sa (We were just excited to support the) theatrical run [of] @reallysharoncuneta’s 1st horror film,” she said.
Aquino noted that the movie could be accessible to kids of younger ages through other media.
“[It] does bring up something worth discussing, our not yet adult kids can watch movies and series (example ‘Game of Thrones’) with very mature themes, on their gadgets,” she said.
“Maybe the classification of movies is something that needs re-evaluation because access has become so much easier because of streaming (Netflix, Amazon, iflix), prime cable (HBO, Showtime etc), and iTunes and Google Play.”
With the limited viewing that she had of the film, she was all praises for the Erik Matti feature, describing it as “creepy.”
“The 3 main actors, Sharon, @johnarcilla, and the fresh discovery portraying ‘Luis’ [Kent Gonzales] were all completely immersed in their roles and the sepia feel of the cinematography gave the movie a hard to distinguish time frame… The musical scoring did a lot to transport us to the past,” she said.
The film follows Luis, a university student who returns to his hometown during the Lenten season when his twin sister dies. His parents, played by Arcilla and Cuneta, welcome him back to their old home, but refuse to speak about their daughter’s death. Soon, grieving comes along with hauntings and Luis tries to uncover the reason behind his sister’s passing.
“Kuwaresma” is showing in theaters nationwide. /ra
