YouTube star Mikey Bustos publicly came out on social media on Easter Sunday, April 21.
The Filipino-Canadian comedian, 37, hinted at a “new life” and “freedom” in two Instagram posts on Sunday and Monday. In the pictures, he posed alongside longtime friend and manager RJ Garcia while in a Puerto Galera beach. Both posts had the gay pride flag in the caption.
This morning, April 23, Bustos shared a heartwarming message of gratitude on his social media accounts.
Sharing a shirtless picture of himself with a sticker of rainbow sunglasses over his eyes, he said, “Thank you for the outpouring of love, guys. @Appleboyrj (RJ Garcia) and I see all your messages and never in our wildest dreams would have imagined the amount of support coming in from all corners of cyberspace, media, and the world!”
“It’s 2019 (as my dad put it when I came out to him a few weeks ago), and a great time to be alive [as part of the] LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual) [community].”
“Happy for you guys!” wrote Erwan Heussaff. YouTube singer AJ Rafael responded with heart emoji, while Fil-Am dancer Dominic Sandoval, a.k.a. D-Trix, said, “I love this and I love you, bro! Congrats to you both!”
Bustos is a singer and comedian born in Canada and lives in the Philippines. He competed in “Canadian Idol” in 2003 and earned viral fame in YouTube for his comic take on being Filipino and song parodies. /ra
