“Dying Inside” singer Darren Espanto belted out to “We Are the World” during a special performance with international artists in the finale of Chinese singing competition “Singer 2019”.
The 17-year-old hitmaker showed off his impressive vocal range with child singer Daneliya Tuleshova from Khazakstan, Polina Gagarina from Russia and rapper Air from China in their rendition of U.S.A. for Africa’s “We Are the World”. The special performance aired during the final round of the competition last Friday, April 12.
Espanto shared a clip of the performance on his Instagram on Saturday, April 13.
In a separate post with stills from the video, the singing sensation received praise from OPM veteran Ogie Alcasid and fellow Filipino-Canadian personality AC Bonifacio.
“Congrats bro!! So proud of you!!” Alcasid exclaimed while singer-dancer AC Bonifacio jested, “[you’re] so good how to be [you] lodi (idol).”

Espanto is not the first Filipino who stepped on the stage of “Singer”. In 2018, KZ Tandingan competed in the Chinese singing show against international singers, including English singer-songwriter Jessie J. NVG
