Liza Soberano

ABS-CBN announced it has started the selection process for the new actress, who will bring  to life the local superheroine Darna on the big screen.

This after Liza Soberano decided to no longer play the iconic character because of an injured finger bone.

In a statement sent to the Inquirer, Soberano’s home network ABS-CBN said the actress “suffered a finger bone fracture while doing a fight scene on the set of ‘Bagani’ last year” and that she is “undergoing treatment and recovering from the trauma.”

However, after consultation with Soberano’s doctor, it was decided for the actress “not to pursue the project as the injury shall hamper her from effectively doing the movie stunts required.”

In October 2018, the film’s original director, Erik Matti, resigned from the project, and cited “creative differences” as the cause.

Shortly after, the Kapamilya network, announced that Jerrold Tarog, who megged the period films “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” would take over the project.

“Meanwhile, preparation for the movie continues,” the network’s statement said.—MARINEL R. CRUZ
