Pia Wurtzbach: Getting tested for HIV/AIDS a form of self-care

It has been two years since Pia Wurtzbach passed on the Miss Universe crown to her successor. But being a beauty queen, she stressed, doesn’t really stop.

“The work continues—that’s what I’m trying to do. Just because my reign had already ended doesn’t mean that I have to forget the things I have done as Miss Universe,” the model-actress told Southeast Asian reporters at a press conference for Lazada’s recent anniversary concert, “Super Par7y,” which she cohosted.

Promoting awareness about HIV/AIDS, for instance, remains her advocacy. “Getting yourself tested is already a form of self-care and love. It means that you care about your health and your loved ones,” pointed out Pia, who has been taking on acting and hosting jobs since her reign.

“I like it when I get invited to events like this, because it helps me hone my hosting skills. I feel like the work I have done in the Philippines has helped me become better,” she said. “I’m glad I’m here—that means I’m doing a good job.”

Meanwhile, asked how she stays in good shape amid all the traveling she does for work, Pia said: “When you’re traveling a lot, you can’t help but try all the wonderful food. I don’t deprive myself. But I do try to stay active. It’s more about the lifestyle, not diet.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
