One of the best new young directors in mainstream movies, Ice Idanan, may be a new name to some people who do not watch indie movies and only watch mainstream movies… but her journey in breaking through the proverbial glass ceiling in the local entertainment industry is a long time coming. We are talking about more than 10 years here of her studying, honing, and perfecting her craft as a director. Ice Idanan took up the necessary courses, she put in the needed time and stayed steadfast on her dream while never looking back no matter how hard and challenge-filled it got for her. In the end, her perseverance paid off.

The current youth who want to get into directing movies should look at Ice Idanan as a perfect example for their motivation because she made it simply because she believes in herself. Goes to show that having self-confidence is never a bad thing!

At 32 years old, Ice Idanan is not that young. But neither is she old to make her mainstream debut as a director. One can say that she is at the right age, definitely, what with the gradual introduction of promising young directors who have their own style, unique approach, and artistic vision when it comes to filmmaking. The arrival of Ice Idanan in the scene comes as a welcome one because she has those rare qualities I have mentioned as seen in the indie movies she has directed. In those movies, it can be gleaned that is where Ice Idanan began to discover her natural talent for directing.

In my opinion, Ice Idanan is the real deal. I hope this wave of change will keep on coming in the local entertainment industry because new blood is always needed onscreen and offscreen. Yes, I said that again because that point of mine has to be stressed and kept in mind. The future is now. It is already taking place as we speak. I can’t wait for the new generation to lead the charge because this will greatly help the local entertainment industry look and feel modern.

‘Stranded’ from Regal Entertainment, Inc. is the first mainstream movie for Director Ice Idanan and stars Arjo Atayde and Jessy Mendiola. ‘Stranded’ is scheduled for a nationwide release on April 10, 2019.

Below is my brief interview with Director Ice Idanan.

  1. QUESTION: If you could be stranded with any foreign celebrity who would you want it to be? Where would you want to be stranded with that foreign celebrity?

ICE IDANAN: I want to be stranded with former U.S. President Barack Obama ! Because I really want to pick his brain. Siguro in a library, ganun. Yeah, para makausap ko siya.

  1. QUESTION: Where would you never want to be stranded under any circumstance? Why?

ICE IDANAN: Ayoko maging stranded pareho din sa kanila nila Jessy and Arjo na nasa elevator. Pero ayoko ma stuck sa elevator with a rat because I am really afraid of rats! So, anywhere with a rat, ayoko talaga ! Kaysa dun, I don’t want to be stranded in the sea, in the middle of the ocean. Kasi walang shade at nakakatakot siya. And, walang water maiinom.

  1. QUESTION: Why should moviegoers watch ‘Stranded’?

ICE IDANAN: It is a very refreshing story but not exactly a love story. It is unique because it has my signature style of directing. It is something that people will want to watch if they are stranded in their lives and want to get out of it. It is something that is very relatable and very different from most movies out now. Please watch our movie ‘Stranded’ showing on April 10, 2019, under Regal.
