Jona not putting musical ‘gift’ to waste despite difficulties

For Jona, singing is more than a passion or profession—it’s her “way of serving the Lord.”
“There were times when I found myself wondering if there were other things I could pursue, if I could switch careers. But I eventually realized that [my voice] is a gift, and that I would be putting it to waste if I don’t use it wisely,” she said at a press conference for “The Aces,” a concert she will headline with Lani Misalucha and Darren Espanto on March 30 at the Big Dome.
“Sometimes, I would arrive home at dawn, tired, after doing shows, then prepare for another one … I feel like crying, at times, because I couldn’t get enough rest or sleep,” she related. “But I embrace it. This is where I was put in … This is my way of serving Him and others.”
Despite her career accomplishments, the 29-year-old recording artist always looks back to her humble beginnings.
“I started at the bottom. I know what it feels like not to be noticed and appreciated. And I still carry that with me all the time … to remind myself where I came from,” said the “Pinoy Pop Superstar” champion, who transferred from GMA 7 to ABS-CBN in 2016.
It’s important, Jona said, to surround yourself with people who remain humble, despite their successes and riches.
“It’s always good to have people with that mindset; people who will remind you not to brag, but just let others see the good in you,” Jona said. “Talent is God’s gift to us, and he can take it away anytime.”
