Well-respected broadcast journalist Jessica Soho is turning a year “fiercer” on March 27. Watching “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” is my fave Sunday habit. Each episode is an interesting mélange of features.
I enjoy my text exchange with Jessica after her show. I give my feedback, which she relays to her staff. For a media personality of her stature, it’s amazing that she values my humble opinion. She has a way of making everyone feel that they matter. It’s evident in all the interviews she does on “KMJS.” She doesn’t pay lip service. She’s all-heart. Viewers can feel her sincerity radiating through the TV screen.
In this age of e-mail, I treasure her handwritten cards to me every Christmas. She really takes time out to write a heartfelt personal message. How awesome is that?
The Kapuso pillar’s birthday gift to herself is to savor some “me” time. She will be spending her natal day in La Union to check on her dad. No matter how successful she is, Jessica remains a Daddy’s Girl.
Birthday cheers to you, Ms. Jessica. I hold you in high esteem and close to my heart.
Breaking the record
LA Tenorio
In our basketball-crazy country, PBA cagers are idolized just like movie stars. The latest highlight is Ginebra San Miguel’s LA Tenorio being named the new “Iron Man” of the professional league after playing his 597th game.
LA broke the record of Alvin Patrimonio (596 games). Tinyente (his moniker) has never missed a single game since he started his PBA career in 2006. What a feat, indeed.
Here’s my chat with LA:
When you retire from the PBA, are you willing to join show biz like other former cagers? As of now, I don’t see myself joining show biz. But I’m not closing my doors. Show biz is a different story. It seems that the schedule is more demanding than playing in the PBA.
What did Alvin tell you during the “turnover ceremony”? After he gave me a salute, he said, “Just continue playing, Iron Man. I’m happy for you.”

What are your endurance tips to other players? Be disciplined, not only in basketball, but also in life. Enjoy the game, but don’t relax. Play hard, play smart.
