As Dani Barretto comes closer to her wedding day, some family matters had to be dealt with, and both Dani and her estranged dad, Kier Legaspi, are obviously feeling the surge of emotions.
Barretto broke her silence about her relationship with Legaspi, admitting that they are currently not in good terms.
“I haven’t spoken to my dad in six years,” the fashion and lifestyle blogger admitted in a vlog entry on her YouTube channel last Saturday, March 16. “The last time we spoke, we were not in good terms — and until now, we’re still not in good terms.”
Barretto went on that the two of them never shared a “solid relationship.” She however said that they had a brief connection which lasted about two months, which she described as “nice.”
“I’m not gonna say naman na parang I didn’t love him or I’m not gonna say ‘I don’t love him,'” Barretto said. “It’s just that na I guess when you’re apart for so long, and you already grew up, and nasanay ka na wala yung tao sa life mo, you just feel like not naman you don’t need the person, but it’s more okay without them.”
(I’m not gonna say that I didn’t love him, or I’m not gonna say “I don’t love him.” It’s just that I guess when you’re apart for so long, and you already grew up, and you got used to that person being out of your life, you just feel like it’s not that you don’t need the person, but it’s more okay without them.)
“My dad and I are not hurting each other anymore by not just talking, maybe it’s for the best,” Barretto admitted. “I mean, we tried the talking thing and it didn’t work out well for us, we ended up not in good terms. And maybe that’s just it, that’s how it’s meant to be.”
Despite not having her father around, Barretto credited her mother, Marjorie, for giving her “so much love alone.” She also revealed that her mom is “the most deserving” person to walk her down the aisle when she gets married to Xavi Panlilio.
“My mom is walking me down the aisle because it’s only right that she walks me down the aisle because she raised me on her own,” the blogger explained. “And everything that I am, it’s all because of her.”
‘You will always be my daughter’
While Barretto disclosed her not-so-good relationship with her dad, the actor reached out to her daughter in a heartfelt Instagram post last Sunday, March 17.
“I don’t really say much about our relationship because I am certain that both of us know the truth,” he said. “I believe that no matter what you say now can never change the truth and the memories we had.”
The actor also assured his daughter, “I’m here, I will always be here.”
“Bata ka pa lang lagi na kitang hinahabol (Since you were young, I have always chased after you), you don’t know what I had to do just to see you,” he added.
“I want you to know that I was the first man who ever loved you and that no matter what, you will always be my daughter,” Legaspi added. “I will continue to pray for you and your family. Hindi importante ang opinyon ng iba. Para sa akin, kasama ang Legaspi family you will have a special place in our hearts.”
(The opinions of other people are not important. For me, along with the Legaspi family, you will have a special place in our hearts.) JB
