Ai-Ai delas Alas, who’s marking her 30th year in show biz this year, is thankful for a life and career full of blessings. The only real negatives, she jested, are all the “kagagahan” she did for love.
“And those are things that I allowed to happen,” the actress said of her previous failed romantic relationships. “Perhaps I needed to learn those lessons. I feel like my experiences help me appreciate the goodness of my husband (Gerald Sibayan) better.”
As part of her 30th anniversary, Ai-Ai plans to hold a benefit concert at the Big Dome—the proceeds of which will help fund the construction of the Kristong Hari Church in Quezon City. The show doubles as Ai-Ai’s farewell gift to Archbishop Antonio Tobias, who’s retiring soon.
“But since this is a benefit show, I’m going to behave!” Ai-Ai quipped. “Maybe I will just do another, smaller show where I can go all-out.”
Her being religious, she surmised, must be one of the reasons she lasted this long in the industry. “It’s my calling to make people laugh,” she added. “And maybe I ended in show biz so I can contribute to the Church,” Ai-Ai added.—ALLAN POLICARPIO
