As per a summary on Anime News Network, the movie features protagonist Hinako Mikaimizu, a surfer and college student new to a coastal community. She meets firefighter Minato Hinageshi after a fire blazes in the town. Both are confident in their own element: Hinako on water and Minato on land.

Tragically, Minato dies in the ocean. As Hinako grieves for him, she sings about their memories and she sees him once again in the water.

The film is directed by Masaaki Yuasa, known for his work on Japanese anime series “Devilman Crybaby” and “Adventure Time”.

Ryota Katayose of Japanese supergroup Exile Tribe voices Minato while Japanese singer and actress Rina Kawaei gives life to Hinako. The theme song “Brand New Story” is by boy band Generations from Exile Tribe.

The film will premiere on June 21 in Japan. JB
