Alden Richards and Ai-Ai delas Alas were not prepared when a fan asked Richards a hardball question about Maine Mendoza during the episode of “Sunday PinaSaya” yesterday, March 10. A video of the episode was shared on Twitter by one of Richards’ fans (@oneoftheblue).
The episode was led by delas Alas, who approached the fan, named Nicole. In the question-and-answer segment, she enjoined the fan to ask a question, “Nicole, ano ang katanungan?” (Nicole, what is your question?)
The fan, without hesitating, blatantly addressed Richards, “Alden, ano’ng feeling na pinagpalit ka ni Maine?” (Alden, how does it feel to be replaced by Maine?)
As soon as the question was asked, screaming erupted from the crowd. The shocked Richards was rendered speechless as he covered his open mouth with his hand, while delas Alas seemed disturbed.
Meanwhile, what seemed to be a staff member of the variety show can be seen standing up in the background and cursing over the question. The netizen taking the video from the television also could not help but do the same.
“Napag*go lang talaga ako sa tanong ni bagets,” the netizen wrote. (I was just dumbstruck by the teen’s question.)
Delas Alas quickly composed herself and said, “Nakakahiya. Nakakahiyang katanungan, ano? Pero maganda yang tanong na yan… Hindi dapat sagutin yan.”
(What a shame. That’s a shameful question, right? But it’s a good question — which should not be answered.)
A few seconds later, Richards, in a joking manner, took to his mic and said, “Wala, invalid yung question! Invalid, invalid!”
(Nah, the question is invalid. Invalid, invalid!)
The “AlDub” tandem has been a hot topic as of late when Mendoza reportedly admitted on her blog last March 2 that she is dating actor Arjo Atayde. Contrary to their on-screen partnership as Yaya Dub and Alden in the “Kalyeserye” portion of “Juan for All, All for Juan” in the past, Mendoza reiterated to her readers that she and Richards are just friends.
Atayde also confirmed last January that he and Mendoza are exclusively dating. As for their online bashers, Atayde challenged them, saying they should stop using troll accounts.
“Do it to me in person. Don’t keep talking to me using troll accounts,” he said then. “It will not work for me. I dare you to say it in front of my face.”
As for the fan’s question, invalid or not, and though she did not get an answer, she was able to pose with Richards for a selfie, at least. JB
