MANILA, Philippines – Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber or the “MayWard” couple, recently dropped their respective singles and candidly shared behind-the-scenes experiences during their recording sessions.
Entrata released a mellow track titled “Kakayanin Kaya,” while Barber released a heart-warming serenade titled “No One Else.”
Both singles were released last February 22.
Entrata admitted she had to work extra hard because “Kakayanin Ko” included high notes.
Thankfully, music producer Rox Santos was hands-on in cheering her on.
“Medyo may birit birit siya ng konti. Tapos ang ginawa namin doon tinulungan ako ni Sir Rox. Tapos nung mag-hi-hit ako ng mataas [na note], sabi ko kaya ko ba to, sir?, sabi nya ‘kaya mo nga yan,” Entrata recalled during a press conference Thursday.
“Tapos tatlong beses naming ginawa tapos pinagbobotohan namin. Nairaos po,” she added.
Meanwhile, Barber said it is still unbelievable that he was able to record this single, even admitting that it is not his “comfort zone.”
“I never thought I would do this. This is not my comfort zone. It’s one of the things na akala ko kahit kailan ‘di ko gagawin. I’m surprised and really happy with the experience,” Barber said.
The producer, Santos, was all praises for the young stars’ passion in working on their respective singles.
Entrata, Santos said, even underwent voice lessons.
“Nag voice lesson siya, nag undergo siya ng formal training para ma achieve namin ‘yung tamang way, tamang technique ng boses para additional learnings na rin sa kanya ‘yung pagkanta.”
Meanwhile, Santos commended Barber for his professionalism.
He said, “Si Edward sobrang passionate din niya sa recording. Darating siya super early, tapos alam niya ‘yung song. Darating siya sa studio naaral na niya ‘yung kanta, same thing with Maymay.”
The music video for “Kakayanin Ko” will be released on March 9, while the music video for “No One Else” is already in the works.
This is not the first time for the two to record their own singles.
Entrata previously came out with songs “Bituin,” “Mahal Kita Kasi,” among others.
Barber, on the other hand, released two singles entitled “BMG” and “Please Stay.” / gsg
