LOOK: Alex Gonzaga, Luis Manzano comical in ‘Meteor Garden’ transformation
Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga will make you feel nostalgic in their latest antic.
The television host and actress, who are best friends and known to tease each other on their social media posts, teamed up to dress as Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai of the much-loved Asian TV series “Meteor Garden”. This was seen on their respective Instagram posts today, Feb. 28.
The two recreated a scene, from the 2002 sequel “Meteor Garden II”, where Shan Cai (Barbie Hsu) ran after Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan) as he was aboard the bus.
Both tried their best to pull off the characters’ looks, and even posed behind the bus. Manzano sported a long-haired wig and gray shirt, while Gonzaga did her best Shan Cai look with a black t-shirt, jeans, a pink backpack and paper bag with oranges inside.
And instead of introducing themselves as Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai, Manzano said that he and Gonzaga were “Dao Ming Lu” and “Shan Cai-Thy”. He also teased fans and followers that their gimmick may be part of a project, adding that they will get to meet the characters “very, very soon.”

Fans and followers once were amused by the two’s rendition of the characters, with one @ninyalily saying: “Ano naman bang kalokohan ‘to?!!! Itsura [niyo] pa lang, natatawa na’ko!”(What is this shenanigan? You’re making me laugh by your looks alone)

“Meteor Garden” was first aired in Taiwan in 2001, launching its cast Hsu, Yan, Vic Zhou, Vaness Wu and Ken Chu to stardom. The show was aired in ABS-CBN in 2003 and became a hit among Filipino viewers. A remake of the series was released in 2018. JB
