Avril Lavigne has had enough of the old conspiracy theory stating she was replaced by a clone. The singer dismissed it as “just a dumb internet rumor.”

It has been known among diehard fans of the Canadian rocker that there is a rumor swirling around social media which alleges that she died in 2003, and was replaced by a body double named Melissa. It was believed to have originated from a Brazilian fan page back in 2005, as per The Independent.

“[It’s] just a dumb internet rumor and [I’m] flabbergasted that people bought into it,” Lavigne reacted in an Entertainment Weekly interview on Monday, Feb. 11. “Isn’t that so weird? It’s so dumb.”

“And I look the exact same,” she added. “On one hand, everyone is like, ‘Oh my god, you look the same,’ and on the other hand people are like ‘Oh my god, she died.””

But at one point, Lavigne feared that she might actually die, since she had been bedridden for five months due to Lyme Disease. Luckily, she came through.

“I think I was about to die because I had this weird feeling of, ‘Whoa. I feel like I’m on a cliff and I’m about to fall, and it’s dark,'” she said about how she got back up from it. “Coming out of it I felt like I was underwater drowning, coming up for air. That’s when I literally said, ‘God, help me keep my head above water.'”

Although Lavigne still describes the condition of her health as “up and down,” she is happy about being able to work again. “I’m able to make music and make videos,” she added. “I’ve come so far.”

Lavigne is set to release her sixth studio album “Head Above Water” on Friday, Feb. 15. Katrina Hallare/JB
