MANILA, Philippines — Personalities from the entertainment industry paid tribute to singer-actress Armida Siguion-Reyna who passed away on Monday at the age of 88.

Among notable artists who mourned via social media Siguion-Reyna’s passing was National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.

Cayabyab wrote in a Twitter post, “I have no words but profound thanks, Tita Midz. May God’s angels carry you on their wings and bring you straight to His Kingdom, with glorious music and joyful, boundless mirth accompanying you on your way!!!”
Actor John Arcilla penned a message posted via Instagram to Siguion-Reyna whom he called the “Showbiz Luminary.”
“I consider myself one of the luckiest when she brought me to the mainstream audience from my theater life,” he said.
“Those were one the greatest years of my life. You were one of the distinguished influencers in your time, a Tigress as they say but you tita Mids left a soft spot in my heart and memories,” he added.
Actress Dawn Zulueta also dedicated an Instagram post to Siguion-Reyna and said, “Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure.”
Writer-director Joey Javier Reyes bid goodbye to the singer-actress and said, “Goodbye, Tita Midz. There can ONLY be ONE Armida Siguion Reyna.”

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jun Robles Lana, on the other hand, referred to Siguion-Reyna as “a formidable force in the entertainment industry.”
Lana said he will always remember her “for the all the powerful women she played onscreen and all the times she fought for the industry and the arts in general.”
“Bravo, Tita Midz. Be with the angels now and let your legacy continue to inspire Filipino artists for generations to come,” Lana added.
Singer-actress Lea Salonga kept her message short and simple and wrote, “Rest In Peace, Tita Midz, and thank you so much.”

Apart from being a singer and an actress, Reyna was also a producer, television show host and was a chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in the late 90s.
Under Reyna Films, she produced critically acclaimed movies like “Hihintayin Kita sa Langit,” “Ikaw Pa Lamang,” “Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin,” among others.
Siguion-Reyna also recorded musical albums such as the two volumes of “Aawitan Kita,” “Armida” and “Sa Lungkot at Saya… Aawitan Kita.” /je
