Stars impart precious life lessons from their fathers

/ 06:20 PM June 12, 2011

Father’s Day is just around the corner. Although I wasn’t as close to my dad as I was to my mom after they separated, I still have fond memories of him. We all have a little of our dads in us. I got my dad’s outgoing nature, his being meticulous, and the way he gets so engrossed in whatever he desires. Though he has passed on, it still gives me great pride that he won the Soap Box Derby in the United States when he was a kid and that, after his wild days, he cleaned up his act and became a religious pastor.

No matter how high celebs get in the success ladder, they still look up to their fathers. What better time than Father’s Day to pay homage to every one’s very first hero?

ALEX GONZAGA: “Just like my dad, I am conservative and God-fearing. I’m proud of him for introducing our whole family to Jesus and the Christian faith. I’m also proud of his drive to spread the word of God, and of the fact that he brought us up the old-fashioned way.

DIANA MENESES: “I got my business sense from my dad. He started from scratch, nothing came easy, but with determination, he became a successful businessman. He sent me to the best schools and always reminded me that it was because of how hard he worked that he was able to give me a good life. But, he also said, when I grew up, I’d have to do it all for myself, so that whatever I work for will be truly mine. I left Brazil for the Philippines with nothing, and did everything for myself, just like my dad said. Now we are both proud of each other.

CARMI MARTIN: “My dad was an excellent cook. I learned from him. I’m a good cook, too.”
