Xian Lim bares why he and Kim Chiu didn’t want to admit their relationship

If one asked Xian Lim about a year ago what the real score between him and actress Kim Chiu was, he would probably have said something vague or change the subject. It was only last November that Chiu broke her silence and confirmed in “Tonight with Boy Abunda” that she and Lim were indeed together.
For their most fervent of fans, this piece of information would seem old news, but Lim recently explained why he and Chiu did not want to go public with their relationship—and for good reason.
For Lim, it was borne out of the desire to protect and cherish their relationship minus all the intrigues in show business.
“Lagi mong tinatanong diba, ‘why now? why are you guys saying this now? ba’t kayo umaamin ngayon?’” Lim said on “Tonight With Boy Abunda” on Jan. 30. “It’s because ayaw namin umamin while magka-trabaho kami.”
Lim and Chiu’s romance blossomed when they were paired together in the rom-com television drama “My Binondo Girl” back in 2011. They then continued on to star in more series and movies as a love team.
“I don’t want people thinking kasi gusto lang nila i-promote yung team-up nila, that’s why they’re together, they have a following,” reasoned Lim.
This privacy seemed to have paid off, though, because years later, their relationship remains strong as ever.
“Now, years later, we’re still together,” he said. “We’re not promoting anything, we’re not promoting ourselves.”
Abunda, on his end, was nothing but joyous for the two and probed Lim further so he would share more about his relationship with Chiu. “What do you enjoy the most while being together?” he asked.
As per Lim, he and Chiu enjoy long drives the most. “Either me driving, she also loves driving. Just talking habang nag-mamaneho.”
In between laughter, he shared an amusing story of him and Chiu during a bout of spontaneity that saw them end up in Quezon province.
“Tapos pagdating namin dun, ‘o, ano na gagawin natin ngayon?’ balik na, walang anything,” shared Lim. “That always happens to us, we go to Tagaytay, ngayong nasa Tagaytay na tayo in-enjoy na natin yung view, ano na? Balik na, u-turn.”
And when it comes to a preference between roses and chocolates, Lim said it is the former that Chiu loves.
“Nung nag-ma ‘My Binondo Girl’ kami, that was the first time na parang I gave her a bouquet of flowers,” he said. “I started giving her roses and it just made her so happy.” /ra
