For young actor Paul Salas, playing one of the leading men in the upcoming GMA 7 fantasy series “Kara Mia” is a “win or go home” undertaking.
“I have always wanted to show people what I’m capable of, so I feel some pressure to do well. This is one of my biggest breaks on TV so far,” he told the Inquirer in a recent interview.
“But I don’t want to think too much about it. I know I’m surrounded by talented people, and I trust them,” Paul added.
In the said show, he plays a smug and sheltered athlete—quite a contrast to the kind of roles he had been getting until recently. “In the past, I was often asked to portray poor or goody-two-shoes characters, so I’m happy that I’m now doing something different,” he said.
“I’m also interested in doing villain roles someday. I’m always open to trying new things,” added the 20-year-old Kapuso talent, who was a finalist in the reality talent search “StarStruck Kids” in 2004.
In 2007, Paul transferred to ABS-CBN and stayed there until 2018. Now, he’s back with GMA 7, together with his uncles, celebrity Arthur Solinap and Dingdong Dantes, whose career he aspires to emulate.
“I’m happy because my titos and close friends are here. I want to be a leading man too—that’s one of my goals. I also hope to get movie projects with great stories,” he said.—ALLAN POLICARPIO
