Julie Anne San Jose and Christian Bautista have that certain je ne sais quoi when they perform together. Asia’s Pop Sweetheart and Asia’s Romantic Balladeer kick off 2019 via the Kapuso concert series—with its first leg set to highlight Iloilo’s Dinagyang Festival. The second leg is on Feb. 10 in Cagayan de Oro.

“The Sweetheart and the Balladeer: Fun Night Only” will be held on Jan. 27 at the Iloilo Convention Center with guests, Golden Cañedo (“The Clash” grand champion) and the wacky duo of Donita Nose and Super Tekla.

The concert series is a collaboration of GMA 7’s Regional TV, Entertainment and Pinoy TV groups. More concerts featuring the network’s biggest stars will be mounted all over the country and abroad. Let the “sing-along sing-a-thon” begin.

FEATURED STORIES

Here’s my chat with Christian (C) and Julie Anne (J):

What makes your tandem with Julie Anne work?

C: It works because of our familiarity with each other. We’ve performed together in many shows, that’s why we’re already very comfortable with each other.

What’s more fulfilling for you—acting or singing?

J: Singing, because it’s my first love. Acting is just a bonus for me, although it’s a field which I’m enthusiastic to explore. As an actress, I’m still in the learning process.

What turns you into a fan boy?

C: Singer-songwriters turn me into a fan boy. It’s amazing if you can do both, especially if you play an instrument well.

What’s your personal anthem for 2019?

J: “We Are Young” by Fun.

What have you discovered about marriage, so far?

C: I highly recommend it. To love someone and to be loved every day. Helping each other to become better persons.

What are the lessons you learned in 2018?

J: When it comes to dealing with other people, you have to leave some for yourself. When you have a goal, give your full commitment to it. The most important thing is your health—physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. Stay positive, despite the challenges.

What song can’t you sing?

C: It’s very hard for me to sing about loss. I get very emotional.

What’s the cheesiest thing that a guy did for you?

J: Serenading me. Since I usually sing for other people, it feels great when someone sings for me. It makes me feel giddy.

What’s on your “to do” list this year?

C: To record more songs and release an album here and in Indonesia. First up was my cover version of Eraserheads’ “Ligaya.” To make the foundation of my marriage strong and solid.

J: We’re excited to see our Kapuso fans. Aside from our production numbers, the show will be a riot with “DonEkla,” the wacky tandem of Donita Nose and Super Tekla. It’s going to be a pre-Valentine show, so our repertoire includes love ballads and “hugot” songs about heartbreak.
