Rihanna is suing her own father, Ronald Fenty, for fraud and false advertising.
Reports said that Fenty and his business partners have been allegedly using Rihanna’s name for a slew of business dealings through Fenty Entertainment—a talent production firm, which the pop star maintained, had nothing do with her.
According to TMZ, Fenty Entertainment attempted to book 15 shows amounting to $15 million in South America in 2017. The company had also reportedly made it appear that Rihanna was involved in its boutique hotel project.
The Barbadian star, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, has trademarked the surname and has been using it for her own ventures—including a fashion line and a cosmetics brand—since 2012.
In the lawsuit filed by Rihanna in a Los Angeles court, she asked a judge for an injunction to stop her father from further exploiting and misappropriating her name.
Part of the lawsuit—a copy of which was obtained by The Blast—read: “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he doesn’t have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
