Gossip in newscasts scored

MANZANO. Returns to TV hosting.

SIONY Vilas, housewife: “I don’t understand why local TV newscasts feature gossip—like an item featuring a beauty expert talking about her break-up with her controversial partner, or the feud between the motor-mouth talent manager and the former teen star—complete with gutter language. Are show biz talk shows and tabloids not enough?”

Other notes:

Emy Divinagracia, office employee: “I’m wondering why Iza Calzado’s career can’t seem to soar to greater heights—she’s a rare combination of talent and beauty. With her transfer to her former studio’s rival network, I hope she doesn’t suffer the sad fate of other ‘transferees,’ whose careers dimmed after they made the move.”

Hybrid

Ben Palubio, businessman: “Can ABS-CBN tap Kim Atienza to host a show that suits him best—a news-documentary hybrid perhaps? He’ll also do well as a news anchor—but, please, not the ‘weather-weather’ type that he can do with his eyes closed. He can also do better than the noontime show he’s in now.

“Also, it’s been floated around that Edu Manzano will soon be hosting a noontime program for TV5. This is welcome news for fans of the talented TV host/actor. But how about a talk show for him too?”

Precy Lim, retired teacher: “Calling TV5: When are you releasing the Nora Aunor miniseries, ‘Sa Ngalan Ng Ina,’ on DVD? I’m sure this will please her followers.”

Alex Dales, moviegoer: “The success of ‘Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story’ is indicative of moviegoers’ hunger for action films—but, only if they’re well-made. It’s also high time to launch a new wave of younger action heroes!”
