MANILA, Philippines – Actor and comedian Vice Ganda has revealed that he was invited to run for senator in the May 2019 midterm elections.
The issue emerged during the ‘Ibi-GAY mo na!’ segment of noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ on Thursday.
Vice Ganda and his co-host, Jhong Hilario were discussing the latter’s struggle with his image because aside from being an actor and a dancer, he’s also an incumbent Makati City councilor.
The comedian then revealed he was urged to run for the Senate, saying: “May kumukuha sa’kin na partido sa senador. Sira ulo ba kayo?”
(A political party invited me to run for senator. Are they crazy?)
He further said, “Sabi, ‘Mananalo ka.’ Oh, ngayon, pag mananalo, tatakbo?”
(I was told I will win. So, if I will win, I must run?)
“Sabi ko, ‘Buong buhay ko tumatakbo na ako, pagod na pagod na ako ‘no.’ Itigil na natin, ngayon na nga lang ako nagpapahinga,” he joked
(All my life, I’ve been running. I’m exhausted. Let’s stop this, it is only now that I get to rest).
The comedian also said in jest that he is planning to run for president in the future: “Kakandidato talaga akong presidente ng Pilipinas, promise. Dalawang eleksyon pa, kakandidato ako — presidente talaga agad.”
(I will run for president of the Philippines. Promise, Two more elections, I will file my candidacy for president).
“Pag nanalo ako, isa lang ibig sabihin nu’n — sira-ulo talaga kayong lahat! Wala talagang kakwenta-kwenta ang mga bumoboto sa Pilipinas,” Vice Ganda added.
(And if I win, it just goes to show that you are all crazy. Voters are really full of nonsense)./gsg
