Why Moira Dela Torre chose to ignore heckler during concert

MANILA, Philippines — Singer Moira Dela Torre was the target of a heckler during a yearend concert, but she chose to ignore him for the kindest reason.

Dela Torre recalled the incident during an interview at “Tonight With Boy Abunda” on Monday: “He wasn’t just doing it in one song. He was doing it in like three.”

“And then yung version ko po na kinanta ng ‘Malaya’ that day is more solemn. So wala masyado instruments. So I could’ve easily stopped. And I wanted, you know, I wasn’t gonna shame him, I wanted to look at him while I was saying my spiel,” she said.

The singer recently revealed being called “taba” and “panget” while she was performing at a year-end concert in Marikina City.

But Dela Torre opted to ignore the heckler because “With all the bullying happening recently, and all the shaming, I don’t want anyone else feeling that. I don’t want to be someone who defines a person by his mistake.”

She further said, “And I know he’s probably just going through something. Or maybe he didn’t have a good childhood or maybe he just doesn’t know any better.”

Dela Torre believes the heckler still “has hope,” adding, “I don’t want to be someone who stops him from finding hope even if he hurt me.” /je
