‘Rainbow’s Sunset’ bags most MMFF awards in Gabi ng Parangal
The LGBT-themed drama “Rainbow’s Sunset” bagged the most number of awards in this year’s edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival “Gabi ng Parangal” held on Thursday night.
The film, produced by Heaven’s Best Entertainment, won the best picture award, as well as the best director honor for Joel Lamangan.
Veteran thespian Gloria Romero was proclaimed best actress, while her leading man in the film, Eddie Garcia, was awarded a Special Jury Prize (for an actor).
“This is the best Christmas gift,” said Romero of her award. “I did not expect that at my age, 85 years old, I would still win something like this.”
Meanwhile, Tony Mabesa and Aiko Melendez copped the best supporting actor and actress trophies, respectively.
Article continues after this advertisementEric Ramos took home the best screenplay award, also for “Rainbow’s Sunset,” while Max Collins got the Special Jury Prize (for an actress).
Article continues after this advertisementThe film also received the Gatpuno J. Villegas Cultural award, as well as the best original theme song trophy for “Sa’yo Na.” It also brought home the best production design award.
Yam Laranas’ horror-thriller “Aurora” is this year’s second best picture winner, while Phoebe Villamor won the best child performer honor.
“Aurora” also got the best cinematography, best sound design and best visual effects trophies.
Eric Quizon’s romantic film “One Great Love” bagged the Third Best Picture award. It also won for Dennis Trillo the best actor trophy, as well as the best musical score.
Mike Tuviera’s comedy-adventure flick “Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles” is the winner of the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award, as well as best editing and best float awards.
“Aurora” lead star Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales, of “The Girl in the Orange Dress,” were proclaimed Lucky Stars of the Night.
This year’s emcees were Janno Gibbs, Mark Bautista and Niña Dolino. The 44th MMFF will run until Jan. 7, 2019. /jpv
