MANILA, Philippines — BTS has broken another record as they received the first-ever Worldwide Icon of the Year award of the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2018.

The seven-member group received the recognition on Wednesday at MAMA’s second awarding event “2018 MAMA Fans’ Choice in Japan.”
Aside from being named the Worldwide Icon of the Year, BTS also received the Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 award, the Favorite Music Video award for “IDOL” and the Favorite Male Dance Artist award.
BTS beat nine other nominees for the inaugural award including BLACKPINK, GOT7, MONSTA X, MAMAMOO, NCT 127, NU’EST W, SEVENTEEN, TWICE and Wanna One.
Held at the Super Saitama Arena, BTS performed their Billboard chart-topping hit “FAKE LOVE” and “Anpanman” from their album “Love Yourself: Tear.”
MAMA 2018 premiered on Monday in South Korea with rookie Korean acts present at the ceremony. The awarding ceremony will conclude on Friday, Dec. 14, in Hong Kong.
