MANILA, Philippines — Rock icon Jett Pangan is set to play the titular role in Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
The news was announced on Wednesday by Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment in an Instagram post: “We are thrilled to announce that rock icon and musical theater star JETT PANGAN will take on the role of SWEENEY TODD!”
This upcoming musical by Atlantis will serve as “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’s” 40th anniversary production.
It will also serve as Atlantis’ final show for their 20th anniversary season alongside Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America: Millenium Approaches” and Tony, Olivier and Grammy Award-winning “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.”
Pangan last appeared on the musical theater stage with his role as Lord Farquaad in “Shrek the Musical.”
The Dawn’s frontman also played parts in “Next to Normal,” “Nine,” “Rock of Ages,” “Urinetown,” and “Tick, tick…BOOM!”
Directed by Bobby Garcia, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” will open in October 2019 at The Theater at Solaire. /muf
