LOOK: TV personalities anticipate UP vs Ateneo in UAAP Finals

For the first time in 32 years, the University of the Philippines will play in the UAAP Finals versus defending champion Ateneo de Manila University.

The UP Fighting Maroon’s historic win on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament stirred a lot of reactions from celebrities who graduated from the universities.

Personalities who graduated from UP expressed happiness for their alma mater’s win with TV host and anchor Gretchen Fullido sharing a reaction video at the set of “TV Patrol.”

She wrote: “UP NAMING MAHAL!! Behind the scenes on @TVPatrol watching UP vs. ADU on Overtime! Captured the winning moment with 6 seconds to go! Soooo proud of you boys!!!! UP FIGHT!!”

Meanwhile, Atom Araullo, another UP graduate, wore a maroon tie to show how proud he was of the UP Fighting Maroons.

“Breaking out the maroon tie for our team! You make us proud! #UPFight!” he said in a tweet.

Actor and film producer Ramon Bautista, on the other hand, tweeted: “Lupet ng laban!!! Pabile ng ticket sa finals!!!! #UPFIGHT.”

Iskolar ng Bayan Christian Bautista congratulated UP, saying “UPFIGHT! #upfightingmaroons @UPMaroons congrats !!! See you @ateneodemanilau its gonna be a great battle sa katipunan.”

Meanwhile, Ateneans also expressed their anticipation in the upcoming “Battle of Katipunan.”

One of them was television host and former Ateneo Lady Eagles Gretchen Ho who said: “Woke up to the news. It’s happeeennnning!!!!! #BattleofKatipunan here we go!”

She also quoted a tweet with the winning shot of UP’s Paul Desiderio and wrote: “Sarap!!!! My heart goes out to the UP community!!! Let the (friendly) trashtalking begin #ADMUvsUP #NowheretogobutUP #ONEBIGFIGHT #BattleofKatipunan.”

TV host Robi Domingo also praised UP and Adamson University’s game, saying in a series of tweets, “WOOOOOOOOOOOW. WHAT A GAME!!! BATTLE OF KATIPUNAN.”

Journalist Jeff Canoy, who also graduated from Ateneo, congratulated UP for their win and said “CONGRATS #UPFight! NOW SEE U IN THE FINALS #GoAteneo #OBF.”

Meanwhile, another Ateneo graduate Bianca Gonzalez tweeted: “Why does this feel like they won a championship game? CONGRATULATIONS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING GAME!!!!!!”

“See you at the finals, UP!!!!! One big fight!!!! #TheBattleOfKatipunan,” she added.

Singer and songwriter Karylle also expressed excitement for UP and Ateneo’s first game this coming Saturday: “Congrats, UP! Excited for Saturday!”

Rica Peralejo, who graduated from Ateneo with a degree in AB English Literature, gave her own bet, saying “Sino man manalo, dun ako magmamasters. #labo #battleofkatipunan #gumawangsarilingpustahan #individualisedpustahan.”

The first game of the historic battle between neighbors UP and Ateneo is set to happen on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena. /cbb
