Oprah Winfrey pays tribute to late mother Vernita Lee

Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday wrote a heartfelt tribute to late mother Vernita Lee who died at the age of 83.

“Thank you all for your kind words and condolences regarding my mother Vernita Lee’s passing,” the television mogul wrote in an Instagram post.

The tribute was accompanied by a family photo that included Oprah and her longtime partner Stedman Graham Jr.

She added: “It gives our family great comfort knowing she lived a good life and is now at Peace.”

Lee died at her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Thanksgiving Day, her family announced Tuesday. She had already been laid to rest by the time news of her death became public.

Lee was a teenager when she gave birth to Winfrey. The latter was raised by her grandmother until she moved to Wisconsin after she turned six.

Winfrey featured her mother in “The Oprah Winfrey Show” for the first time in 1990. /cbb
