Divas to headline concert with Boyz II Men in Manila

KZ Tandingan, Kyla, Yeng Constantino and Angeline Quinto collectively known as the Divas will headline a concert with all-time best selling R&B group Boyz II Men on December 15 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The all-star female group expressed a feeling of “a good kind of pressure” to perform alongside the Grammy-award winning international act.

“Nakakanerbyos pero good kind of pressure siya eh kasi isang honor makatrabaho po namin yung ganun ka-excellent na mga musiko,” Pop Rock Superstar Yeng Constantino said during the concert’s media conference on Tuesday.

“Asia’s Soul Supreme” Tandingan echoed Constantino’s sentiments saying: “For us to be in the same concert as them, parehas gaming nag-headline nung concert, kailangan yung excellence namin as artists, as performers, as a group kailangan nasa same level ng Boyz II Men.”

Tandingan added how this collaboration forced them to work harder: “No slacking, hindi pwedeng basta basta nalang, ‘pwede na yan,’ ‘keri na yan.”

Meanwhile, “R&B Queen” Kyla said she feels a different mix of emotions because she grew up listening to Boyz II Men.

Kyla even recalled going to the group’s first concert in the country: “In fact, nanood ako ng first time sila nagperform dito, long, long time ago, more than 10 years ago.”

She added: “Nung kumakanta sila, apat pa sila noon, hindi ko talaga mapigilan, umiyak talaga ako.”

The Queen of OPM theme songs Angeline Quinto, on the other hand, couldn’t believe they will be sharing the same stage with the members of Boyz II Men.

“Hindi naman natin alam at wala namang nakapagsabi na ngayong 2018 ay makakapagperform ako, kami, kasama sila. Talagang hindi niyo alam kung gaano kami kaexcited,” Quinto said.

The Divas first headlined a concert together in 2016 at the Araneta Coliseum. Because of its success, they brought their “Divas: Live” concert to the United States and Canada.

Boyz II Men, on the other hand, have visited the Philippines many times. The last time was their performance at the 65th Miss Universe hosted by the country.

The group composed of Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman are known for their hits “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love To You,” “On Bended Knee,” “Four Seasons of Loneliness” and many more. /jpv
