Saab Magalona marks 30th birthday with moms of premature babies

Saab Magalona decided to pay it forward with a 30th birthday celebration dedicated to mothers of premature babies at the East Avenue Medical Center.

“Best way to spend my 30th,” the singer described her visit on Sunday to the hospital to donate to its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

She partnered with Lisamarie Santos, administrator of Facebook page of NICU Families and Preemie Support Group that helped her “through trying times.”

“I encourage mothers of premature babies and those who went through a NICU experience to find support by joining our Facebook group!” she said.

Magalona also got a lactation specialist “to give a breastfeeding and newborn care talk for new mothers.”

The Cheats singer said: “The East Ave Medical Center NICU ward has a capacity of 70-80 babies but right now they have about 110!”

She also narrated how the babies have to share bassinets and how the NICU is understaffed “with 1 nurse taking care of 10-15 babies.”

“This is why we are grateful for your donations, big or small!” she said.

Magalona got to donate “boxes of newborn clothes, swaddles, booties, mittens, and cloth diapers” and “some electric breast pumps” with the help of her friends.

She also noted the importance of breast milk especially for premature babies and “expressing milk while the neonates are too small to actually latch will make sure milk production won’t stop!”

Magalona is a new mom to baby Pancho with husband Jim Bacarro. The couple tied the knot in 2015. /cbb
