2 PH films in India fest

Rosemarie Gil in “Delia & Sammy”

Thop Nazareno’s “Kiko Boksingero” and Therese Cayaba’s “Delia & Sammy” will be the country’s representatives in the fourth edition of the All Lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF) in Hyderabad next month.

The two films will compete in the category “International Competition for Debut Directors’ Films,” Nazareno posted in his Facebook account. The announcement was also posted on the festival’s website Ailiff.com.

“Kiko Boksingero” revolves around Kiko (Noel Comia Jr.), an 11-year-old boy left aimlessly alone with his nanny (Yayo Aguila) after the recent death of his mother. He rekindles a long-lost relationship with his father (Yul Servo) in an attempt to find a new lease on life. The film premiered at the 2017 Cinemalaya.

Meanwhile, “Delia & Sammy” is about an ill-tempered old actress, Delia (Rosemarie Gil), and her equally difficult husband (Jaime Fabregas). She has to find a family to leave him with before she dies, forcing themselves back into the lives of people they’ve hurt, estranged and antagonized. It was a part of the CineFilipino Festival in May.

The Aliiff, which will be held from Dec. 1 to 4, aims “to educate the film festival attendees through the art and science of film, promoting cross-cultural awareness, the exchange of ideas, and social understanding,” the website stated.—MARINEL R. CRUZ
