Regine Velasquez looks back on her ‘humbling’ silver anniversary concert

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez looked back to when she lost her voice before her silver anniversary concert in 2012.
“I completely lost my voice. I’ve never experienced that. You know what I realized, during that time, ang yabang ko eh,” she said during an interview at “Tonight With Boy Abunda” on Thursday.
Velasquez recounted hearing things like “she probably won’t be able to sing anymore, she has lost it.”
“So and yabang ko na parang, ‘Ah ganun ah…’ Talagang lahat ng mahirap na kanta, kakantahin ko that day,” she said.
In November 2012, the Asia’s Songbird had to cut short her 25th anniversary concert billed as “Silver” after losing her voice.
The singer knew at the time that she still had it, adding “I could still sing them, all of them. And I was singing them.”
However, the Asia’s Songbird came to a realization why she was celebrating her 25th year: “I thought I was there to prove to every that I can still sing.”
“I missed it, kumbaga. Hindi ko nakuha the point of celebrating the 25th year,” she added.
Nonetheless, the said concert remains “the most memorable concert” for the singer “because even though I didn’t have a voice, my audience didn’t leave me.”
“They were singing my songs. They were all singing for me because I couldn’t,” she recounted.
Describing the experience as “humbling,” she said, “I realized, ‘this is why I’m celebrating my 25th year. I’m celebrating with these people who’ve been with me since the beginning of time.”
The singer restaged her “Silver” concert for free in January 2013 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena.
Velasquez is set to return in the concert scene as she headlines “Regine at the Movies” to be held at the New Frontier Theater on November 17, 24 and 25. /muf
