The ABS-CBN television series “Ang Probinsyano” gives a bad impression of police officers and promotes the idea of “instant justice,” Director General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
“Masyadong di na pangkaraniwan and it gives us a bad impression already. It is unfair when you portray yung ganyang mga activity na hindi nangyayari sa organization namin,” he said.
[It’s too extraordinary and it gives us a bad impression already. It is unfair when you portray an activity that does not happen in our organiztion.]
“It’s very disturbing para kasing ang nakikita nung mga tao na it’s parang instant yung justice, parang it’s OK. It’s not,” he added.
[It’s very disturbing because people see that justice could be obtained instantly, like its OK. It’s not.]
Albayalde also raised his concern on representing the PNP chief as a villain in the show.
“Let’s be realistic,” he said. “Kung yan ay isang teleserye na pwedeng mangyari sa pangaraw-araw medyo malayo naman yung chief PNP himself na siya yung kontrabidang lumalabas.”
[If that teleserye shows what seems to be happening every day, it’s far from the truth the PNP chief himself comes out as the villain.]
Albayalde said the PNP would write a letter listing the concerns of the police about the show to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)
But ABS-CBN said in a statement that the program was “purely fictitious,” as it had always stated in a disclaimer at the start of the show.
“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” assures the Philippine National Police (PNP) that the characters, places, and incidents in the program are purely fictitious as stated in the disclaimer aired at the start of the show every night,” ABS-CBN said.
The news agency added that the program had no intention to “smear the reputation of any organization or portray any person in a negative light.”
ABS-CBN also said the main character of “Ang Probinsyano,” main character – SPO2 Ricardo “Cardo” Dalisay, played by Coco Martin – was shown as a hardworking, noting that the show had always represented the “good.”
“The program has also portrayed its main character, Cardo, as a hardworking police officer dedicated to saving lives and serving his fellowmen,” ABS-CBN said. “As in the past years, ‘FPJAP’ has highlighted that good shall always triumph over evil and has shared valuable lessons and family values that have resonated with viewers.” /atm
